THREE local cafes have joined in an attempt to raise money for grassroots homeless projects in Fremantle.
The Crowded House, Juicy Beetroot and X-Wray Cafes will start the campaign on November 14, asking patrons to add a $2 or more donation to their table’s bill, with the funds raised going to support the homeless in the lead-up to Christmas.
The money would go towards organisations that provided critical services, emergency aid and projects promoting social inclusion, empowerment and sustainable change.
Crowded House owner Tim Grey-Smith said he was hoping the initiative would take off with other cafes.
“It is a fantastic initiative and I am confident that other restaurateurs with social conscience will take on this project and give it a red-hot crack,” Mr Grey-Smith said.
“Given the slightly iffy treatment that homeless people are getting while CHOGM is on, this is a great way of showing some love to people who need it most.”
