SPEARWOOD resident Yiannis Sifandos is helping make a difference to other youths in Cockburn and is being recognised for his efforts.

The Rotary Club of Cockburn has helped fund his trip to Melbourne later this month to take part in a leadership course which supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth to create positive change on all levels.

Yiannis will be one of 50 young people from across Australia taking part in workshops.

Cockburn councillor and Halo youth support group founder Lee-Anne Smith said Yiannis, with the help of Halo, has diverted them away from drugs and crime.

Yiannis was determined to make a difference in the lives of young people in the Cockburn community and, she added, without the support of the club would not have been able to attend the workshop.

Rotary Club of Cockburn community director Claude Iannello said its members were happy to help youths. He added the work Halo did with young people was inspiring, and it was good to see them both reaching for personal targets and at the same time helping each other.
