CHINESE artist Yun Bai Xiao will exhibit several works in Bayswater this month, highlighting his fondness for mountains, bamboo, flowers and birds.
Yun visited Ellis House community art centre with his son three years ago and spent several weeks working with the resident artists.
Derna Johnson from the centre said it soon became apparent that he was an accomplished artist, producing portraits and landscapes in oils and demonstrating the skill of traditional brush painting using ink on rice paper.
Yun then returned to China and came back to Australia with his wife last year.
A painter for more than 30 years, he taught himself the art by reading books and learning from older painters in his home city Suqian in the Jiangsu province, northwest of Shanghai.
He began sketching and painting with oils and gouache (opaque watercolours), then moved on to producing traditional Chinese paintings.
His works are on show at Ellis House, Bayswater, until February 14.
He will return to China after the exhibition.
