CHIDLOW resident Johanna Zeelenberg’s artwork is a side feature to the Mundaring Arts Centre’s Darlings Range jewellery exhibition, launched earlier this month.
The 36-year-old is this month’s Artist in Focus, with her pieces displayed in the Community Room in her first solo show.
“I have been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember,” she said.
“As a child, I recall using fallen branches from ghost gums and drawing into the Pilbara red dirt.”
Zeelenberg said living in the Hills inspired her to draw from her local surroundings.
“More than ever before we are isolated from the natural environment and are unable to find the time to consider it,” she said.
“My work involves texturing and mark-making to try to capture the essence of the landscape.”
Mundaring Arts Centre director Jenny Haynes said Zeelenberg often supplied works to the gift shop.
“We were happy to help her launch her first solo program,” she said.
“We feel her display complements the main exhibition, as they both utilise the natural environment.”
Both exhibitions run until April 18.
